For Sri Lankan students who have completed less than 13 years of education and wish to pursue their higher education in a UK university, the UK offers foundation and diploma courses as an entry pathway to undergraduate level programmes. These UK foundation programmes are one-year programmes designed to prepare students for further UK education, provide them English-language ability and familiarize them with the international student life in the UK.

A UK foundation programme bridges the academic gaps between your high school education and UK curriculum so that you can be better equipped for undergraduate education. For foundation courses, international students only need a minimum IELTS score of 4.5. Those without a formal education in English can attend English courses.
